Teacher Kenneth Anbany faces jail for 1980s pupil rape

A former Devon teacher has been found guilty of raping one of his pupils after a school disco in the 1980s.

Kenneth Anbany, 63, of Stockport, Greater Manchester, attacked the girl when he worked at Dartmouth Community College, Exeter Crown Court heard.

The victim came forward after hearing about another attack by Anbany.

Anbany, convicted of rape and two counts of inciting a child to commit an act of gross indecency, was told he faced a "substantial" jail term.

The court had heard he had been "policing" the school disco on the night of the rape when he encountered the 15-year-old girl coming out of the toilets.

He had previously chatted her up in class and put his arm around her as he helped her with work, something she told the court had made her feel "uncomfortable".
Secluded lane

The victim, now 39, told the court she "naively" agreed to go to his car because she wanted to tell him to stop pestering her.

Instead, the court heard, he drove a distance to a secluded lane and raped her.

Afterwards he dropped her back at the school and went to the pub.

It was not until she saw newspaper reports on the internet in 2009 about a conviction for Anbany involving another young girl that she came forward.

He was given a three-year community supervision order after admitting in October 2009 to driving an Exeter schoolgirl to a secluded location, molesting her and asking her for sex.

Judge Graham Cottle told Anbany: "You stand convicted of the rape of a 15-year-old pupil. You must expect to receive a substantial custodial sentence."

Anbany was remanded in custody for sentencing on 7 April.
